KIDS UNITED
It is so much fun to belong to a circle of friends. It lets us share ideas and find out how we all live. Sometimes we live differently, but that's part of the fun. Sometimes we talk differently, but that's how we communicate exciting ideas. Sometimes we look different, but underneath our hair and clothes and skin, we're really all the same. We're a circle, and whether we're boys or girls, we're friends. And that's the most important thing in the world.

You believe what I believe, only different
It was a beautiful day and all the friends were talking about the things they believe in.

"I believe in the tooth fairy," said Suzie as she popped a root beer.

"I believe my parents take care of my teeth," said Chehn, pulling his legs up under him so he could sit cross-legged.

"Well, I believe in chocolate ice cream," said Sean as he licked his double scoop.

"That's not good for your teeth," said Ana who was peeling a banana. "That's why I believe in fruit."

"There's fruit in some kinds of ice cream," said David. "Like Black Cherry or raspberry sherbert."

"Sherbert isn't ice cream," said Tommy, eating yogurt. "That's why I believe in frozen yogurt."

"Yuck," said Luc. He was eating a cookie.

"I believe in getting good grades in school," said Maria as she opened a book.

"I believe that, too," said Heidi.

"We all believe that," said her brother. "If we don't get good grades, we don't get to get older."

"We get older even if we don't do good in school," said Abebi.

"Yeah, but we don't have as much fun," said Natasha.

"We probably have more fun," said Sean.

The friends sat around in a big circle, eating their ice cream or their yogurt, drinking a rootbeer or munching on a cookie, reading a book or just staring off into space.

"I believe in being nice to people," said a friend.

"I believe in helping people," said another friend.

"I believe in more ice cream," said a friend.

"I believe in more frozen yogurt," said another friend.

"Well, I believe that I'm right," said the ice cream friend.

"Well, I believe that I'm right," said the yogurt friend.

"I believe."
"I believe."
"I believe."

The words kept swirling around the friends like wisps of a cloud and one friend blended into another. They were all individuals with individual beliefs but they were all the same, and one friend's belief didn't make him right or wrong.

"I believe in God," someone said.

"I believe in Jesus," another said.

"I believe in Allah," said still another.

"I believeŠ that as long as we're good people it doesn't really matter what we believe or who we believe in."

No one knew who said it, but they all nodded in unison as they ate what they liked, and wore the clothes they liked, and read the books they wanted. Because when they all thought about it, they knew that one person's belief didn't make another person's belief wrong. It just made it different. And what really mattered was that they were all were good and kind and loving to one another.

And that it was a beautiful day and all the friends were talking about the things they believe in.
