Originating out of a celebration of the beginning of summer in France, Quebec National Day is a celebration of light and a symbol of hope. The celebration moved to Canada with the French and has been celebrated in Quebec since the 1600’s!

June 24th is a big day for Valérie! Valérie will celebrate Quebec National Day with many traditional activities including the official parade and performances, bonfires, and fireworks. She gets to perform in the official Quebec National Day parade through the streets of Montreal with her dad. Since Valérie’s dad is a Mountie, he will ride in the parade on his horse. Valérie will be on a float and wave to all the people on the sidelines! The parades include children from all over Canada performing in bands, dressed in costumes and performing on floats. It is an exciting event to watch, and even more exciting to perform in! The parade is going to end with a banquet and bonfire in the town square, and fireworks to perpetuate the light of summer into the night. There are performances at the bonfire with dancers and musicians. Valérie loves watching the fireworks flash in the sky once the sun goes down.

Valérie also loves this time of year because with summer comes swimming! The day after the parade, Valérie will get to go swimming for the first time all season. The pools open for summer business on Quebec National Day. Valérie and all her friends make a huge trip to the community pool for a day full of swimming fun.
